.Only make one Setting one goal allows you to focus all your energy into changing a habit or creating a new one. This means your more likely to succeed. Don't set yourself up for failure.
.Think deeply Don't just set any old goal, think about what you really want. If there isn't a particular thing you want to change enough to make a change then don't set one. You have got to really want it.
.Don't look back Don't choose a past failed resolution as you will be drawn to think about failing the first time around. This will cloud your focus and prime for frustration. Unless you are determined and past failure is fuel for the fire after reflecting on why it failed and how to overcome the barriers.
.Be true to you Think about what you really want from life and what you want the future to hold. If you really want it you will be more propelled to do what it takes. Don't follow the crowd follow your heart.
.Break it down Once you have settled on your goal think about all the little steps that need to be done to reach it. Set each step as a single goal to work towards step by little step. This makes reaching the goal easier as you will get satisfaction with every step spurring you on.
.Social support Don't be scared to tell people your goals. Don't be embarrassed about what you want from life. Friends and family can offer great support. Telling others i.e through social media can also be a good way to make you get there as you feel more compelled to succeed now that everyone knows.
.Whats the benefits Take time to think about the benefits of reaching your goal. This may be physically, mental and materialistic. Write this down and return to it often, especially when/if you feel like giving up.
.Reward yourself Every time you complete a step (that you planned at the beginning) towards the end goal reward yourself. However if your goal is to lose weight a binge will only be self destructive. Why not treat yourself to a new pair of gym clothes? Something that will give you determination/ help you to reach that next step.
.What get measure get managed Record, record, record. Keep a diary of what you have done to reach your goal. Write down any ideas you have to make the process easier or new ways to reach your goal and what needs to be done next. Looking back at your progress can revamp that motivation if you feel like you have hit a wall.
.Never give up Its hard to fight old habits, it is likely you will revert once in a while but DO NOT give up. Get back up and carry on. There may be a brick way blocking your path, you could give up or you could go around it or quicker yet climb over.
